In China, we will list those banks who have English service, and staff in branch can speak English well. We can classify those banks into 3 groups
Group 1: Traditional big 5 banks: ICBC, BOC, CCB, ABC, PSBC(Owned by Central Gov)
Group 2: Several medium-sized commercial banks: CMB, CNCB, SPDB, CGB, BoCom
Group 3: Famous foreign banks: HSBC China, Citibank China, ANZ China
Staff's English Service in Branches
Group 1 is very poor.
Group 2 is acceptable.
Gourp 3 is best.
The branch is larger, the better their staff can speak English. Large branch in CBD is good choice.
English Website for Online Banking
Group 1 is poor englsih interface, poor translation, bad experience.(I am a Chinese, and I hate their Chinese interface too)
Group 2 is acceptable, Foreigner can use it freely.
Gourp 3, foreigner are used to work with it, best.
All banks in China have no mobile app in English.
Recommend: CMB or Group 3.
RMB Credit Card Application and Usage for Foreigners
In China, Credit card are usually with: UnionPay+MasterCard/UnionPsy +Visa
Group 1: All are bad experience. Need a lot of useless certificate for application
Group 2: Most of them are nice experience, easy to application.
Group 3: depend on your asset.
Recommend: Group 2
Banking Service Fee and Fare
Online transfering fee, financial asset certificate fee etc.
Group 1: Free personal RMB debit card, low fee for most of service.
Group 2: Free personal RMB debit card, acceptable fee for most of service.
Group 3: If you are a VIP with a lot of asset in their bank, you will get best service with less fee and fare.
For online transfeing, all chinese banks are free.
Recommend: Group 2.
Branches and ATMs
Group 1: Everywhere in China, especially PSBC, have more than 40,000 branches in the whole China.
Group 2: Only in many large cities of China.
Group 3: Only in several large cities of China.
Get Cash from any ATM in other cities: 0.5%(2 - 50 RMB).
Get Cash from any ATM in same city: 2 or 4 RMB/withdraw.
Foreign Currency Exchange
Bank of China and ICBC have more different foreign currencies to exchange.
BOC's staff can identify notes with hand very fast.
Foreign banks have worse exchange rate than all Chinese banks.
Group 1: Need more paperwork to fill and sign.
Group 2: Faster to finish paperwork.
Group 3: I don't know, haha.
Recommend: ICBC, BOC, CMB.
